Industrial Technology and Trades

Careers and job opportunities in the trades and technologies are booming! In fact, Skills Canada reports that the average age of a fully qualified tradesperson is over 48 years old, meaning that in the next seven to ten years, there is going to be almost a 100% turnover in many skilled trades.

In the next two decades, 40% of new jobs will be in the skilled trades and technologies. According to Job Futures 2000, by 2007, more than one-third of jobs created in Canada will require a skilled trade designation or a college diploma. And now, many skilled tradespeople make six-figure incomes with excellent benefits! (www.skillscanada.com)

Holland College programs in the trades and technologies, many of which are nationally accredited and recognized, are delivered in several locations across the Island. Many of our students are award winning. At the 2005 Skills Canada competition held in Edmonton, College students won the following medals:

  • Robert-John Postma, Gold Medal Winner for Automation and Control;
  • Nick Green, Gold Medal Winner for Refrigeration;
  • Mike Gallant, Gold Medal Winner for CNC Machining; and
  • Charles Smith, Bronze Medal Winner for Auto Service.
