Tourism and Culinary Centre

Travel and tourism is the world's highest priority industries and employers, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The Canadian tourism industry offers a variety of rewarding careers with more than 2 million people working in the industry in 2005..

Canadians working in the tourism industry have many faces - people working in travel, accommodation, adventure tourism and outdoor recreation, attractions, transportation, food and beverage service, and events and conferences.

Located on the Charlottetown waterfront, Holland College’s Tourism and Culinary Centre was created in 1995 as an international tourism and hospitality school. The Centre encompasses a wide variety of management programs in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Prince Edward Island is a world-class tourist destination and offers unique opportunities for the study of domestic and international tourism and hospitality. The courses offered at the Centre have been developed in consultation with the tourism and hospitality industry throughout Canada, North America and the world. Curriculum is developed in accordance with existing industry standards and is taught by dedicated instructors in industry-related environments.

The Centre has arranged articulation agreements with several universities across Canada for students in the tourism and hospitality area. For more information, click here.

Instructors and staff at the Centre recognize that the tourism and hospitality industry requires individuals who possess the attributes to lead the industry in the 21st century and are committed to providing quality competency-based training which will meet both the needs of the individual and the industry.

Most recently in this program division:

  • Colin Davidson won a Silver Medal for Restaurant Service at the 2005 skills Canada Competition; and
  • The Tourism and Travel's Events Management students got a first-hand look at how a major event is orchestrated and the work that goes on behind the scenes when they worked as volunteers with the East Coast Music Awards in Sydney, Nova Scotia. A practical component to their program, the students assisted key organizers with registration, logistics, staging, promotions and media.
