Host Family for International Students

Are you interested in being a Host Family for an international student? If so, please complete our "International Student Homestay - Host Family Application Form" (pdf or MsWord) and return the completed application to the International office at the address or fax noted on the form.

There are a few choices you will need to make before you start hunting for a place to live during your time at Holland College:

  • which type of accommodation you want (Apartment, Rooms with Kitchen Privileges, or Room and Board).
  • do you want roommates? Consider other than a single person dwelling such as a large apartment or house to be cost shared.
  • what's your price range? Don't forget utilities (e.g. electricity, telephone, cable) and travel costs.

Start early and be prepared to spend sufficient time looking for a place to live. We receive new listings weekly. Don't be hasty. Visit several places. It may take longer than you expect to find a place to live so be sure to make arrangements for temporary accommodation (e.g. friends, relatives or parents' friends). We also recommend that you check the local newspapers for more places to rent, especially if you are searching for an apartment.

We may be able to provide you with more detailed information on the accommodations listed and will do our best to answer and address any questions or concerns you may have.

PLEASE NOTE:

Holland College provides these lists to you as a referral service and does not inspect, and therefore, cannot recommend the accommodations listed.  Each student is responsible for making his/her own accommodations arrangements. The people on these lists have NOT been screened by Holland College, therefore, we do not assume any responsibility for the accommodations listed.  It is strongly recommended you personally examine the premises to ensure it meets your standards for safety and quality and thoroughly read any lease or rental agreement ensuring you understand your restrictions and responsibilities before signing it.

Holland College is not responsible for any misrepresented, out of date or missing information. Availability and rental rates are subject to change without notice, as it is the responsibility of the landlord to keep Holland College informed if their rental has been filled. Please contact the landlord or contact person for more clarification.

Ask lots of questions. Check out the premises thoroughly after all, it will be your home during your time at Holland College.

Questions You Should Ask...

If this is the first time that you find yourself out looking for a nice place to live, you may not know what to ask the landlord, and if you are a veteran hunter, the following list may contain questions or items to watch for that you may not have thought to ask. Remember, do not assume that the landlord knows what you want to know about his or her accommodation. Do not be afraid to ask questions! The landlord should be more than willing to answer your queries. Any inadequacies with a property should be discussed with the landlord before a binding agreement is reached.
