Photography & Digital Imaging - Camera Recomendations

1st Year

35mm Camera System (recommended options)

The Holland College Photography & Digital Imaging Program requests that students entering the program arrive with a 35mm film camera capable of full manual operation with interchangeable lens capability. While there are some new “student” systems available it may be cost effective to purchase an older model (second hand).

The program recommends the following lenses:

- 28mm, 50mm and 80mm (or 28-80/90 zoom)
- 100mm and 200mm (or 80 to 200/300 zoom)

2nd Year

Digital Cameras (Optional)

It is not necessary to purchase your own digital camera because the P&DI department carries several Canon D-SLR’s that students can sign out on short term basis. If you still plan to buy your own, please keep in mind that most requirements regarding film cameras also apply to digital bodies. It should be an SLR type with full manual operation and interchangeable lenses. Because this can be a considerable investment, do not hesitate to contact us with questions or for further information.
