Additional Information

A two year, general commercial photography course with a major emphasis on success in the business of photography. The program is seeking students with an energetic interest in the field with willingness to develop self-motivational and time management skills. Many aspects of skill development are initiated and directed by the individual student. Average number of students is 26.

FACILITIES AND RESOURCES

BLACK AND WHITE

Full-time black and white (multi-user) darkroom with three film processing areas.

COLOUR

Full-time colour print (multi-user) darkroom and E-6 processing.

STUDIO

Contemporary; large and well equipped with tungsten and electronic flash and many light-shaping accessories. Backgrounds and a makeup/change room.

WORK AREA

Large, organized space for matting, framing and other finishing work.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT

A number of 4X5, medium format, 35mm cameras, digital cameras and related equipment are available for student use.

RESOURCES

A small but concise in program library with videos, books and technical publications is supplemented with monthly subscriptions to a variety of photographic magazines. Guest speakers from industry provide additional insight for students.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

17 Macintosh based workstations with peripherals including: 3 scanners (film and flatbed), photographic quality dye-sub printer, B&W laser jet, ink-jet printers supported by Photoshop™ and related software. Fully networked, email, internet access.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCES

Outside photographic assignments are encouraged during the 2 years at the college. Second year students have the opportunity to spend time in the work environment to enhance their understanding of the field and/or their specialty.
