Find Background Information

The Resource Centre has a number of general and culinary specific resources that can assist you in your research.
Depending on your topic you may want to start with a general online source like Encyclopedia Britannica (tipsheet) or use these print resources:

Find Books/Videos

You can locate books and other resources available in your Resource Centre by using the Library's online catalogue. If you've never used the online catalogue before, you may want to review the process with these video tutorials. You may want to search the catalogue by keyword (eg. garnishes, garde manger, vegetables, poultry) or by some of these subjects:

These databases can help you answer these and many other assignment related questions you may have. You will want to search some of these databases:

ABI/Inform - focuses on business, economics, tourism, etc.

sample titles include: Food Management, Foodservice Equipment & Supplies, Nation's Restaurant News, Restaurant Business, Restaurants and Institutions, etc.

Academic Search Elite (ASE)- a variety of subject areas are covered

sample titles include: Better Nutrition, Organic Gardening, etc.

Canadian Business & Current Affairs (CBCA)- focuses on current events, business, etc.

sample titles include: Bon Appetit (citations only), Food in Canada, etc.

Vocational & Career Collection (VCC)- focuses on professional, trade, technical and industrial information

sample titles include: Beverage World, Food Management, Food Manufacture, Foodservice Director, Restaurant Hospitality, etc.
