Holland College Entrance Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries

The following scholarships are administered through the Holland College Foundation. An application form is required for each award. Printable descriptions of the Foundation's scholarships, awards and bursaries and application forms are available by clicking on the name of the scholarship, award or bursary.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION
All applications MUST include a résumé and and a brief biography.

  • Make sure you have included all the information required.
  • Criteria are meant to be broad in order to provide you with an opportunity to include information that may support your application.
  • Conduct a final check to ensure you have met all the requirements.
  • Ensure that your application is well written and well presented.
  • Remember, quality and level of effort are always noticed.
  • Please forward all completed required information to the Registrar's Office.

Application procedure:
Students may apply for one or more of the available scholarships, bursaries and awards. Completed applications must include the standard application form. Completed application documentation is required for each scholarship, bursary or award.

All applications will be reviewed by the Awards Selection Committee appointed by the Registrar.

Students are advised to read the award criteria carefully. Further information is available at the Registrar's Office.

ATLANTIC TURBINES INTERNATIONAL INC. SCHOLARSHIP
Program specific
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: May 15
Criteria:
Student must be accepted into the Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine Repair and Overhaul Program and, on admission to the program, demonstrate through previous academic performance and other aspects of the recruitment and selection process outstanding potential for successful participation in the aviation industry.

ATV MEDIA SCHOLARSHIP
Program specific
Amount: $2,500 or more
Deadline: May 15
Criteria:
Student must be accepted into the Journalism or Graphic Design program. Applicants must be members of a designated group as defined in the Canada Employment Equity Act. Preference is given to students who are members of a visible minority or aboriginal peoples who demonstrate an interest in television journalism and/or visual communications. If there are either no candidates, or not enough candidates from any of the designated groups, the foundation reserves the right to identify other deserving candidates. The selection committee takes into account factors such as academic standing, experience, the quality of the autobiographical essay, community involvement, and financial need. Up to five bursaries of $500 each may also be awarded to deserving students who meet the performance requirements of their program to help with extra expenses, such as expenses incurred for on-the-job training.

Student must be accepted in the Environmental Applied Science Technology program. Student must demonstrate through previous academic performance and other aspects of the recruitment and selection process outstanding potential for successful participation in the environmental technology industry.

CONNOLLY FINANCIAL GROUP LOCK LLEWELLYN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: Two awards of $500 each
Deadline: May 15
Criteria:
Student must be accepted into a full time program at Holland College.
Student must demonstrate leadership in academics and athletics.

THE CULINARY INSTITUTE OF CANADA'S APPLIED DEGREE IN CULINARY OPERATIONS ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
Program specific
Amount: One 1st year full tuition scholarship
Deadline: June 1, 2006
Criteria:
Students must be accepted into the Applied Degree in Culinary Operations program. Students must submit a Transcript of Marks from their previous two-year Culinary Arts program or from their most recently attended educational institution. Application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from an instructor or professor who was directly involved in the student's instruction, or from a supervisor or employer.

HARRISON MCCAIN BURSARIES
Citizenship requirement
Amount: Ten awards of $1,000 each
Deadline: May 15th
Criteria:
Applicants must be Canadian citizens who have been accepted into a full time program at Holland College. Financial need will be a primary consideration.

HARRY MACLAUCHLAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Graduate of an Adult and Community Education program or other recognized basic education program

Amount: $1,500
Deadline: May 1
Criteria:
For a student who is graduating, or has graduated, from an Adult and Community Education program or other recognized basic education program who has been accepted into a program at the college. If there are no first year student candidates for the award, it can be given to a second year student who meets the criteria.

HOLLAND COLLEGE PRESIDENT’S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
Amount: Two to four 1st year full tuition scholarships
Deadline: May 15
Criteria:
A Grade 12 average of at least 80 per cent. Students must submit an essay of no more than 500 words outlining their suitability for this award. Students must submit two completed reference forms from school or community representatives attesting to the applicant’s leadership in athletics, school, workplace, or community, or some combination thereof. MURPHY'S PHARMACY PRACTICAL NURSING ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Amount: $1,000

Criteria:
Student must be accepted in the Practical Nursing program and, on acceptance to their program, demonstrate through previous academic performance, community service and other aspects of the recruitment and selection process outstanding potential for successful participation in the program.

NOVARTIS ANIMAL HEALTH ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Amount: $2,000
Deadline: May 15
Criteria:
Student must be accepted into the first year of the Bioscience Technology program. Applicant must hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree or a similar level of qualification. Must demonstrate through previous academic performance and other aspects of the recruitment and selection process outstanding potential for successful participation in the program. Must submit a short essay (250-500 words) that describes their interest in bioscience and its technologies. Applicants will also be assessed on the basis of financial need.

PETER GZOWSKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Graduates of the Adult and Community Education program or other recognized basic education program
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: April 22
Criteria:
For a student who will be graduating or has graduated from a program at Adult and Community Education or another recognized basic education program and has been accepted to a program at Holland College. If there are no first year student candidates for the award, it can be given to a second year student who meets the criteria.

PROVINCIAL APPRENTICESHIP BOARD ACCELERATED SECONDARY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (ASAP) HOLLAND COLLEGE AWARD

Criteria:
For students graduating from Grade 12 who are registered in the Accelerated Secondary Apprenticeship Program (ASAP) and who are pursuing further training at the college or through apprenticeship. Students must be registered in ASAP and complete Grade 12 or its equivalent. In order for youth apprentices to be eligible for the award, they must have accumulated a minimum of 250 hours of paid work experience while registered in ASAP. Half of the award will be applied to tuition at Holland College; the other half is a cash award to the student.

SAMUEL HOLLAND ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND GRADUATES OF ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Graduate of an Adult and Community Education program or other recognized basic education program
Amount: $3,000

Criteria:
Must have been accepted into a Holland College program. For a student who is graduating or has graduated from an Adult and Community Education program or other recognized basic education program who has been accepted into a program at the college.

SAMUEL HOLLAND ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Residency Requirement
Amount: $3,000 will be awarded to one student from each Island high school who has been accepted into a Holland College program.
Deadline: May 15
Criteria:
Must have been accepted into a Holland College program. Students must be currently enrolled in grade 12 at a PEI high school. Must have a Grade 12 average of at least 70 per cent in Grade 12 core courses (fall and spring transcript). Must submit a letter from a teacher attesting to the applicant’s aptitude for the program.

STEWART MCKELVEY STIRLING SCALES ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
Program Specific
Amount: Three awards of $1,000 each
Deadline: May 15 – Correctional Officer and Law & Security programs
October 15 – Police Science Cadet program
Criteria:
One scholarship per year will be available to a student in each of the following programs: Police Science (Cadet), Law & Security, and Correctional Officer who, on acceptance into their program, demonstrate through previous academic performance and other aspects of the recruitment and selection process outstanding potential for successful participation in their selected program.

TOWN OF SOURIS SCHOLARSHIP
Souris Regional High School Graduates only

Criteria:
Must be an outstanding student graduating from Souris Regional High School who plans to attend Holland College. Must have an average of at least 75 per cent and have demonstrated aptitude for the College program of choice. Must also demonstrate community and/or volunteer involvement.

VECTOR AEROSPACE ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

WANDA WYATT SCHOLARSHIPS
Residency Requirement
Amount: Four 1st year tuition credits to a maximum of $5,000

Criteria:
Available to Prince Edward Island students who have demonstrated an aptitude for, or an interest in, the cultural or artistic dimension of life, and who demonstrate potential to contribute to the long-term development of the province of Prince Edward Island. Must be accepted into a program at Holland College. Students must apply for the award, and must provide in written format a response to the following: List the three activities within either your school or community that have been the most important to you over the last three years, and state why they support or add to the cultural or artistic dimension of life on the Island - include your role and period of involvement. Students must provide their most recent academic record. Students must submit two reference forms completed by non-relatives. Selection may include a personal interview with a sub-committee established to select scholarship recipients.
