SVA Reunion brings together alumni, instructors and staff to reminisce about the old days, and to catch up on news

The Holland College School of Visual Arts Reunion held on Saturday, September 22nd was a great success. An enthusiastic group of about 40 people gathered at the Culinary Institute of Canada on the Charlottetown waterfront, many of them bringing samples of their work from while they were at the college as students, instructors, or staff, and samples of their work today. The quality of their crafts was, and continues to be, impressive.

The group spent the afternoon together looking through albums and catalogues from their days at the School of Visual Arts, recounting stories, and enjoying each other's company and the unusually warm weather. In the evening, students from the the Culinary Institute prepared a barbecue and a buffet for the group. Supper was followed by a slide show.

To see pictures from the reunion, visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/14019824@N05/.
Ian Scott and Diane Gaudreau both have blogs about the SVA that you can visit and participate in. Diane’s is http://schoolofvisualarts.blogspot.com/ and Ian’s is http://sva2007.blogspot.com/.

A message on behalf of the Holland College History Project committee

The Association of Holland College Retirees (ASHCOR) is working on the production of a commemorative book covering the first 25 years of the history of Holland College, with an emphasis on the unique contribution the college made to provincial, national and international education from 1969-1995. The book will contain anecdotal recollections of the college’s formative years as well as historical facts and assessments of the college’s contribution to education.

ASHCOR is asking for your assistance in a very important aspect of the project – the collection of archival material.  Some material has already been collected, but we know that much more from the early years is out there in the basements and attics of members of the college family. If you have any material that may be relevant, such as board and committee minutes, early newsletters, photos and news releases, or anything else that will help tell the story, we would be delighted to know about it and, if you are willing, to add it to the collection.

We can arrange to pick it up, you may leave it at the president’s office located at 285 Kent Street, or you can drop it off at the college library directly across the street in the new wing of the Charlottetown Centre.

Our target is to have the book published in time for Holland College’s 40th anniversary in 2009.

The first student yearbook noted that “we have no past, only a future”. Holland College now has a history as well, and we believe it is time to record it!

You may contact me by phone at 902-892-1878 or by e-mail rusde@pei.sympatico.ca; or Larry Coffin by phone at 902-368-1990 or by e-mail at lhcoffin@pei.sympatico.ca.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Davida Stewart
