Planned Giving

Planned giving is a powerful way to give to Holland College students. It allows the donor to make a significant gift  without a large expeniture during his or her lifetime. For this reason, planned giving is often the wisest way for many donors to give. There are two ways to establish a donation through planned giving. You may bequeath money or assets in your will; or you may make the Holland College Foundation the beneficiary of an new or existing insurance policy.

A Will is a legal document that tells the court who to appoint to have the power over your property and tells that person what to do with your property when you die. It also specifies who shall receive any rights of access or guardianship. At your death, your property will be a legally entity called an estate.

A Bequest is a gift in your will stating that a certain amount of your estate or a particular asset is to be directed to a certain beneficiary.

Benefits of a Charitable Bequest

  • You are able to use your assets during your lifetime
  • The terms of your will may be changed at any time in your life in response to changes in your circumstances
  • Your gift allows the charity to pursue a course of action that may otherwise not be possible
  • Your estate receives a tax receipt

If you are interesting in planned giving, please contact your legal counsel, financial advisor, or the Foundation for more information.
