Practical Nursing

This two year diploma program is delivered in four semesters. Semester one is primarily theory based, however the remainder of the program is a blend of both theory and clinical practice. Learning is enhanced with simulated practice in a laboratory setting with opportunity to develop and demonstrate skills necessary for the clinical setting.

At the end of the two year program, students will have an opportunity to complete 160 hours of practicum in a clinical site with a Licensed Practical Nurse as a preceptor. This aspect of the program is designed to enhance entry-level skills and prepare the graduate for successful adaptation to the workplace. A graduate of this program is eligible to write the national examination (CPNE). The successful completion of this exam will qualify him/her as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

The mission statement of the Holland College Practical Nursing Program is:

To prepare practical nurses, grounded in the principles of Primary Health Care to be effective professionals within a multidisciplinary health care team.
