Police Science (Cadet)

As society has become more complex, so has the role of a police officer. Using state of-the-art technology and top instructors from the field, the Atlantic Police Academy prepares candidates to meet the challenge of a changing society.

The Canadian Association Chiefs of Police (CACP) and the Canadian Professional Police Association (CPPA) recognizes the Atlantic Police Academy as one of the six nationally recognized police training academies.

The Police Science (Cadet) program blends knowledge with hands-on training using real life situations and various simulations to prepare police cadets for the law enforcement profession.

The Police Science (Cadet) program is a mandatory residential program. Cadets are required to live in residence in single person rooms for the duration of training excluding the on-the-job training component of the program. The residential environment serves as a training lab in the same way as the driving track and the firing range. The residence provides experiental learning that would not be possible if students interacted with one another in an instructional setting alone. Residence Life allows students to develop skills in teamwork, problem solving, time management and communications. Additionally, residence life allows for the development of attitudes such as gender anc cross-cultural sensitivity that are essential to a successful career in the policing community.

The residence includes single person rooms with bathrooms, fridges, TV's, and air conditioning. There is a common laundry area, a common lounge area with a large screen TV and a kitchenette area with microwaves only.

The residential program includes 14 meals per week from breakfast Monday morning to Friday at lunch. The meals are provided by Slemon Park Food Services. Students are responsible for their own meals Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday. These additional meals can be arranged with Slemon Park Food Services.
