Marine Navigation

The Marine Training Centre provides courses for all levels of Transport Canada Certification. Courses are offered on a continuous intake/exit basis, September through May.

  • Master Mariner
  • Master, Intermediate, Voyage and Master, Local Voyage
  • First Mate, Intermediate Voyage and First Mate, Local Voyage
  • Watchkeeping Mate Ship and Restricted Watchkeeping Mate Ship
  • Master, Ship of not more than 350 tons gross tonnage or Tug, Local Voyage
  • Master, Limited
  • First Mate, Limited
  • Fishing Master First Class, Second Class, Third Class and Fourth Class
  • Simulated Electronic Navigation I and II
  • ECDIS
  • ARPA
  • MED A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, C and D
  • Bridge Resource Management
  • GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress Safety Systems)
  • ROCMC (Radio Operators Certificate Maritime Commercial)

Program Operation

Students progress through theory and practical courses to be certified for Transport Canada examinations.

Admission Requirements

  • Transport Canada-approved sea time
  • Pass a colour blindness test
  • Pass a Transport Canada medical examination
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Applicants are asked to outline previous work experience on the back of the application form
