Bridge Resource Management

The Marine Training Centre features a state of-the-art Kongsberg Polaris (Full Mission) DNV Class “A” compliant ship’s bridge simulator. The bridge has a 245º horizontal field of vision plus one 35º stern channel (total FOV = 280º). The system also includes three smaller Own Ship bridges, each having 120 degrees of visuals. Instructional facilities feature a video monitoring system and debriefing room.

The ship’s bridge simulator is capable of simulating a total shipboard operation situation, including advanced maneuvering, and it is fully integrated with the Centre’s Dynamic Positioning, Engine Room, and Liquid Cargo Handling simulators, which allows for a broad range of realistic training scenarios.

Course Offerings

For Masters and Mates, this specialized course is designed to increase the awareness of bridge personnel to potential human errors. Seminars on situational awareness, communications, planning teamwork and relationship with pilots are followed by simulator exercises emphasizing and testing the principles of BRM. This course at present is non-mandatory.
