Human Resource Management

The Human Resource Management (HRM) program is offered jointly by the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) and Holland College, with the UPEI component to be completed first.

This program leads to a Certificate in Human Resource Management. Students may enrol either on a full-time or part-time basis.

Program Components

• Knowledge/Theory
  • The following university credit courses are required (9 semester hours):
  • Bus. Admin 361 - Human Resource Management
  • Bus. Admin 271 - Organizational Behaviour
  • Bus. Admin 372 - Industrial Relations
• Skills Building
  • Job-specific skills will be developed through study and practice via individualized learning modules at Holland College. Students are required to complete a minimum of 50 competencies
• Field Placement
• Participants who do not have experience in human resource management must obtain the equivalent of four weeks on-the-job training experience in a human resources department.

Sequencing

Candidates begin their studies by registering for three university credit courses (9 semester hours). Following the completion of these courses, students can enrol at Holland College and complete the necessary skill modules. Students without HRM experience work voluntarily in the personnel office of an organization to meet the field requirement.
