Computer Studies

Information Technology (IT) continues to experience growth in several key areas and employers in the IT industry still require employees who bring a combination of technical and employability skills to this dynamic and rapidly evolving workplace.

The Computer Studies Department offers one and two year graduate and post-graduate programs that train students in critical areas of the IT industry. In response to industry and student demand, the Department’s Computer Information Systems program is available as a distance program.

In addition to technical skills, the programs focus on the development of strong employability skills including adapting to new environments, working as part of a team or on your own, managing time and meeting commitments under pressure. And students are award winning - at the 2005 National Skills Canada competition, student Steven Woodin won a Bronze Medal for IT /PC Network Support.

Students benefit from industry-specified and nationally recognized curriculum as well as educational partnerships with Cisco Systems, Novell and Microsoft. Several programs have received national accreditation from the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) and the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.

Employment opportunities in Canada, the United States and around the world have seen graduates working as Programmers Analysts, E-Business Programmers/Analysts, User Support Specialists, Network Administrators and Engineers, Business Software Developers and Computer Engineering and Electronics Engineering Technologists and Technicians.

Programs offered in the Computer Studies Department include:
