The Holland College women’s team compete in regional and national events throughout Canada. There will be a qualifying tournament, consisting of 6 -12 competitive rounds of golf, in late August early September to identify the training teams for the year. The training teams have a unique opportunity to develop their skills as they are exposed to some of the best facilities, technology and staff in Canada. The Canadian Golf Academy provides the perfect facility to improve your skills, coupled with two simulators located at the Tourism & Culinary Centre. Other technologies include: Zelocity Pure Launch system, Vector Launch Monitor, Club Fitting & Repair lab, ISEE Video Unit, Force Plate and Swing Analysis software. Players will have an opportunity to train with head coach Jeff Donovan as well as other CPGA professionals on staff.

2008 Fall Program

Hurricanes will be hosting a rigorous campaign of golf qualifying and a tournament schedule for the 2008 Hurricanes Varisty Golf teams. Please ensure you read through all the stages and understand the level of commitment that is required. All interested players must pre-register with Paul Murnaghan, Varisity Golf Coordinator, at pmurnaghan@hollandc.pe.ca by August 22, 2008. The cost for stage 1 & 2 is $250.00 (includes 6 rounds of golf and lunch on the first day) and must be paid before competition begins.

Aug 30 - Sept 5, 2008 The first stage starts on Saturday August 30th at 9:00 a.m. sharp at the Canadian Golf Academy with an overview of the program and introduction to key staff involved in varsity golf. This is followed by Day One of play at Fox Meadow Golf Course with lunch being provided. There are four rounds scheduled at four different golf courses from August 30 to September 5, 2008. Golf courses will be selected in the coming weeks.
Sept 13 & 14, 2008 The next step for all players is the two day Harvest Moon Tournament at Brudenell River Golf Course, September 13th & 14th. The Hurricanes have our own division and at the end of play on Sunday, we will have produced a group of players eligible for Stage III. Players will count all six scores accumulated over this two week period of play.
Sept 15 - Sept 19, 2008 Golfers selected from Stage II will proceed through a series of player evaluation sessions conducted at the Canadian Golf Academy. Golfers will be assessed on skills and abilities and go through an individual club fitting and equipment analysis.
As player profiles will be developed and refined, the Academy will complete this stage with active participation in presentations on game strategies and course management techniques, followed by further player evaluations.
Sept 20 - Oct 5, 2008 Two teams of five men and one team of three women will be chosen to represent the Hurricanes, competing in the ACAA Tournament play on September 20 & 27 and the ACAA Championship on October 5, 2008. Tournaments are hosted by Mount A, University of Saint Anne and Holland College.
Oct 7 - Oct 12, 2008 Additional qualifying rounds will be determined for the weekend of October 11, 12 & 13.
Oct 14 - Oct 17, 2008 Final teams will be selected to play in the Ping Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Open Golf Championship hosted by Holland College on October 15-18, 2008. The championship will be hosted at the Fox Meadow Golf & County Club.
Oct 18 - Oct 31, 2008 The remainder of the fall season will be filled with Club challenges matches. This stage will extend to the end of October.
Ongoing To conclude the fall 2008 program, all eligible players will meet with the Hurricanes Varsity coaching support team to determine individual winter fitness and practice program.

Please Note

1) In the spring of 2009, a second season of play will begin and players again will be asked to participate in a selection process based from the fall season.
2) All students are advised that academic progress is a prerequisite to playing on a Holland Hurricanes team. Students not meeting the academic standards of his or her program will automatically be suspended from play.
3) All players should register as a student prior to the commencement of play on August 30, 2008.
4) Rules of play will be consistent with standard RCGA and rules of golf. Smoking is not permitted at golf courses. Also, no MP3, iPod, cell phones or like devices are allowed on course during play.
5) Code of conduct and speed of play will be discussed prior to play on August 30st.
