The third camp is the Boys' Volleyball Camp, and it runs from Monday to Friday, July 22nd to 26th.

Both the Girl's and Boys' Volleyball Camps begin at 9:00 am and finish at 4:00 pm daily. These camps are open to players entering grades seven to twelve this fall. In these camps the players will work on basic fundamental s that they will need to play volleyball at the junior high and high school levels. The cost of these camps is $165 plus hst.

All participants to take part in the camps will receive a Hurricanes Academy t-shirt. Anyone wishing to have a brochure and registration form emailed to them is asked to email hollandhurricanes@hollandcollege.com.

All camps will take place at the Centre for Community Engagement gymnasium at Holland College, located at 323 Grafton Street in Charlottetown.

The camp director and head instructor for the camp will be the new head coach of the Holland Hurricanes women's volleyball team, Lori-Beth Dwyer.

As a player, Dwyer was a five-time AUS all-star with the Acadia Axewomen, a CIS Academic All-Canadian, the AUS rookie of the year in 2001, AUS MVP, three-time Acadia Athlete of the Year, four-time Acadia Volleyball MVP, and a two-time recipient of the Therese Quigley TSN Award in recognition of her contributions to academics, athletics and the community. Since her player career ended, Lori-Beth has been involved on the coaching side of the game, as an assistant coach for the Acadia Axewomen for a season and, most recently, she helped coach the Birchwood Cobras Midget AA girls' volleyball team to a bronze medal at the PEISAA championship in Summerside. Lori-Beth currently works as a teacher with the English Language School Board.

Holland College Athletic Director, Albert Roche, had this to say on the inaugural volleyball camps.

"We're thrilled to be able to put on a volleyball camp for these young athletes here this summer. There are not a lot of opportunities for young volleyball players on PEI to take part in camps like this so we're excited and to try something new. The students will certainly learn a lot from our new head coach Lori-Beth Dwyer who is both an amazing person as well as teacher and coach. They are in good hands."

Deadline to sign up for all camps is June 28th. To request more information on these camps please email hollandhurricanes@hollandcollege.com or call 902-566-9598.

Hurricanes Men's Volleyball: Loses Heartbreaker at ACAA Championships

They fought until the very last point, but the men's volleyball Hurricanes met a familiar end to their ACAA championship aspirations at Université Sainte-Anne on Saturday.

After being down two sets to none, Holland College battled back to force a fifth set before the St. Thomas Tommies served as the end of the road for the Hurricanes, downing them 15-13 in the decisive set, a carbon copy of the finish to the 2012 ACAA championship match, also won by the Tommies.

The first set started out as a back and forth encounter, but St. Thomas took over late in the set, going on a 7-2 run en route to a 25-17 win.

Neither team went on a long run in the second set, though 16 attacking errors certainly didn't help the Hurricanes as St. Thomas went on to a 25-22 win to go up two sets to none and putting Holland College's season on the line.
Facing a do or die situation, Holland College took advantage of St. Thomas's errors en route to a crucial 25-22 victory in the third set.

The fourth set proved to be the set that just wouldn't end, as neither team was willing to give the other an inch. Tensions also rose throughout the set, as Hurricanes captain Jeremy McKinnon was disqualified from the match after complaining to the referees about a call and kicking the ball. However, the Hurricanes rallied to save four St. Thomas match points before taking a marathon fourth set 33-31 to force the final set.

Holland College jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in the final set, but St. Thomas's Jason Cannon got hot on serve, taking six straight points to give the Tommies an 11-5 lead. The Hurricanes battled back to get the score to 14-13, successfully defending three match points.

However, Holland College's Mike Harris, who was named an ACAA all-star for his play this season, had his final serve sail long, and the celebration was on for the Tommies while the Hurricanes, having battled until the very end, could only watch.
Harris led the Hurricanes attack with 17 kills and eight digs, while Gordon Veitch also had a strong game with 10 kills and 12 digs. Kelsy Jones had 54 assists for Holland College, while libero Brandon Boyce registered 17 digs.
